The Paralegal Profession remains unregulated and as such qualifications and training vary. There is no requirement for a Governing Body. There is no requirement for accreditation, so it is necessary to ensure that training is from a reputable training provider.
Some training providers self-regulate and offer courses simultaneously, which is contrary to regulation protocol. Regulatory bodies must be independent otherwise there will be a conflict of interest.
Paralegals do not require a Licence to work as Paralegals. They do not require Practising Certificates. They work under supervision of qualified solicitors and barristers.
Our Paralegal Procedural Law Courses focus on both practical training skills and foundation in law. This enables paralegals to work as fee earners in Conveyancing, Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation, Matrimonial, Corporate Law or Wills and Probate. They will be able to deal confidently and efficiently with client files in their areas of study.
We offer Introduction to Advanced Levels. We do not offer various 'levels' as students must be proficient in the entire subject area before qualifying as paralegals!
Online Training College is a long and well established law training college. We have a solid reputation for training, with both Employers and with students nationwide and abroad. Our Paralegal Courses cover the foundations in law with 5 core subjects and further prepare you for the world of work with practical training in Procedural Law covering 4 more subjects. With 31 years of training and several years of legal working experience, we continue to offer quality paralegal courses which were formulated and developed for the workplace in collaboration with law governing bodies and other legal professionals. Our Conveyancing courses cover the Law Society Conveyancing Protocol.
Accreditation
We are registered Member of UK Register of Learning Providers. Registration Number: 10026522
Our paralegal courses are recognised by solicitors nationally and internationally.
There are 3 stages of qualifications for a Paralegal - Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced.
Intermediate Level qualifies you as a Paralegal. Modules 1,2,3 covers Introduction to Intermediate Level. Modules 1, 2, 3 must be completed unless exempt.
Advanced Level qualifies you as a Senior Paralegal. Module 4 is undertaken by students who have completed Modules 1, 2,3 or equivalent or who have adequate legal work experience.
Law Graduates
Law Graduates who have completed the English Common Law system, are not required to complete any further studies to work as Paralegals, unless they have not covered the Law Society's Legal Practice Course/LPC or equivalent. If they have not completed the LPC, they are required to complete our Practical Legal Skills Courses - Modules 2,3 to qualify for a post graduate Paralegal Diploma as a law degree by itself is not sufficient.
On satisfactory completion, the diploma or certificate will be posted to home or business address.
We have published Minimum Estimated Study Time as 8 weeks per module, based on 3 hours study per week but students can be flexible and complete in a longer or shorter time as suits their schedule. Most students complete each Module within 6 months. There is a 2-year time limit to complete each course.
Independent Paralegals
Paralegals must work under supervision of qualified solicitors or barristers. There are some areas of law which are not reserved for solicitors and barristers and within these areas, paralegals may wish to work independently or with paralegal services agencies. Areas which are not reserved solely for solicitors and barristers may be within Small Civil Claims, Debt Recovery, some undefended Divorces.
There are now several paralegal registers which aim to provide greater confidence within the profession to members of the public. These are voluntary and paralegals may, or may not, wish to join such a register or to become members of a membership body.
