Paralegals and Legal Secretaries are unregulated professionals, therefore, accreditation is not a requirement. There is no accreditation body.
A Licence is not required.
A degree is not necessary unless being a Paralegal or Legal Secretary is not your end goal. If you wish to progress to becoming a Barrister or Solicitor, a law degree may be necessary.
Practising Certificates are not necessary.
The Solicitors Act 1974 reserves certain legal activities for Solicitors and Barristers and therefore Paralegals can only perform many of these activities under the supervision of Solicitors or Barristers.
There are some unregulated areas of law such as debt recovery, undefended divorces and Wills in which paralegals are able to offer independent legal services to members of the public.
Our law Courses are in accordance with the former Institute of Paralegal's National Competency Standard guidelines which were set circa 2009.
